IBM MQ Healthcheck (22/05/2007)
New IBM MQ Health check offering from Strategic Thought to coincide with the release of version 4.1 of the Active Integrator Files to MQ Gateway.
MQ is a powerful, flexible, but complex tool and IBM customers often find that there are areas within MQ configurations (both large and small) where useful improvements can be made.
Wimbledon based Strategic Thought specialises in MQ and Message Broker solutions. The company has considerable experience of working within MQ systems ranging from installations with a single queue manager, to large corporations with thousands of systems and tens of thousands of queue managers.
Strategic Thought has recently introduced a new WebSphere MQ Health check programme. Each Health check will review:
- Messaging Architecture
- OS Configuration
- Installation Details
- Logging Configuration
- Message Exits
- Clustering
- Queue Manager Settings
- Queue/Channel Settings
- SSL Usage
- Monitoring Strategy
- Failover/DR Solutions
- Benchmarking.
Each Health check will typically take five days: the initial scoping exercise, a detailed analysis of existing MQ installations, a presentation back to the client plus a full report of known problem areas, fixes, benchmarking and suggested next steps.
Integrating Legacy and MQ Applications
In addition Strategic Thought has developed a software product called Active Integrator Files Gateway which uses the reliability of MQ to transport files between applications. It can detect files output from any application and move them into a designated message queue. Conversely it can convert MQ messages into files, placing these in a specified directory. Therefore, Active Integrator enhances the ability of MQ to integrate systems.
