Raytheon uses ARM (15/09/06)
Active Risk Manager is in use across multiple high technology defence and commercial electronics programmes.
Strategic Thought Group announced today that Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL), a prime contractor and major supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence is using Active Risk Manager from Strategic Thought Group to manage risk across more than 60 programmes and five sites in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Active Risk Manager is a web based enterprise risk management software solution. It is an easy-to-use and intuitive application and this has lead to the wide acceptance and adoption of the system across different business units and programmes including ASTOR, the Airborne Stand-Off Radar programme, for the UK Ministry of Defence.
"Risk communication within Raytheon Systems Limited has significantly improved since adopting Active Risk Manager," said Fiona King, Risk Manager at RSL. "The system is in use on multiple programmes that range from small demonstration type projects to billion dollar programmes such as ASTOR an advanced, long range, ground surveillance system that utilises the new generation, Global Express jet which has been designated the Sentinel R1."
Prior to the installation of Active Risk Manager previous systems did not allow RSL to access risk data across the organisation as it was held on stand alone computers. Fiona King continued, "One of the main benefits of Active Risk Manager has been the ease of access to risk data combined with improved communication across programmes and sites. I can now look at progress on a regular basis without having to travel round the UK. The same applies to managers on the different programmes, who might have teams at a number of sites, we have a far better view of risk than ever before."
RSL management receive regular standard reports produced from Active Risk Manager and find the consistent structure and graphical charts useful. In particular the PID (Probability Impact Diagrams) charts and the S Curve, probability distribution graphs prove popular because while simple they prove an effective way of graphically displaying levels of risk associated with different programmes.
Risk has become a key part of RSL company processes in particular in terms of budget management. It is also seen as a standard requirement for every programme won by RSL. For these reasons more risk data is being held and Active Risk Manager is integral to the management and access of that data.
Fiona King continued, "Active Risk Manager is very good in terms of processing power. Provided it has adequate hardware power available; it is very quick in comparison to anything we have used before. For example when completing schedule analysis there is no limit to how speedily the results are achieved – with the amount of data now being held proves invaluable."
RSL has received training from the Risk Management Services Team at Strategic Thought and further training will be carried out as the product is rolled out to additional users across the company.
Glenn Scherrer Vice President of Business Development at Strategic Thought said, "We are very pleased that Raytheon has achieved such significant success with Active Risk Manager. The contributing factors that have led to this success are Raytheon's solid understanding of, and commitment to, risk management and the strength of the Active Risk Manager platform. These elements, coupled with a solid business relationship between our companies, continue to allow our partnership to achieve new heights. We look forward to supporting all of Raytheon's future efforts."
